The PBDCG is dedicated to the conservation of Pacific Black Ducks in Tasmania through education, advocacy, habitat rehabilitation and Mallard management. 

Cross-breeding with domestic mallard ducks is the PBDs biggest threat in Tasmania. This hybridisation has lead to the extinction or near-extinction of PBDs on Macquarie, Norfolk and Lord Howe Islands as well as both New Zealand’s main islands and smaller offshore islands.

Current projects being undertaken by the PBGCG:
-Feral Mallard and PBD x Mallard hybrid removal projects. 
-Distibution of our 'Ducks of Tasmania' identification booklet.
-Raising awareness about native ducks, and why it’s important for councils to manage dumped duck populations.
-Assisting councils in developing new signage in problem feeding areas.
-Developing new council websites about native duck species and the impacts of feeding ducks.
-Promoting responsible pet duck ownership. Duck dumping is the main reason for feral duck populations.
-Promoting a switch to domestic Muscovy ducks instead of mallard breeds.
-Lobbying for better regulations regarding domestic duck ownership. 
-Partnership with the Black Gum Conservation Group with potential joint-black gum/duck habitat planting days. 

The first print run of the 'Ducks of Tasmania' booklet available to the general public is now exahusted. The fundraiser is still open.
