Wildwood Landcare Group

A newly formed group aiming to restore and enhance Deloraine's Wildwood for the use of the community. The Wildwood is a 14 acre flood plain bordering the Meander River and recently purchased by the Meander Valley Council from the Rotary Club of Deloraine. Although badly degraded there are remnants of native vegetation including myrtle, blackwood, native grasses, reeds, and a recently identified threatened species - fragrant hemp bush. Numerous native fauna inhabit the area. Our plans and aims are to revegetate the riparian zone with suitable natives to help with stabilization and flood control, re-establish the frog ponds which drained out after the last major flood, provide native habitat and control weeds. This also extends to controlling willow and sycamore infestations. A ten-year Master Plan, with accompanying vegetation map has been developed, and will guide future restorative work to be carried out by Group members.
