Governance for Groups

Governance is important for Landcare Tasmania, and it is important for your group as well.

Governance is simply having the right set of arrangements that define how your group is controlled and run.

Its about using the best possible processes to make decisions for your organisation. It means that the
structures, activities and operations of your group meet legal requirements, have probity, are transparent and are
accountable.

But more importantly it will actually help your group to be well run and make caring for our land, coasts and soils more enjoyable.

To help with this, Landcare Tasmania has produced a simple guide and checklist you can use to get the governance of your group right. Its not a one size fits all document either - you can choose the governance elements that are appropriate and ignore the others (so long as you have a good reason that is).
